These young professional women are absolute beginners to sewing, and all came to Jane one evening for their first sewing lesson.  Two of them, Grace and Cate, have already completed their first garment.  Congrats!

Cate wears her first garment...PJ pants.

Grace is very proud of her bias skirt.

Jane helped Laura design this amazing skating dress for her daughter Ellen.  The crystals are all glued on one at a time.  The back looks like it is laced, but also has an invisible zipper.

On the ice, the dress appears to be strapless since the glistenette doesn't show from a distance.

Although Laura has made many skating outfits for Ellen, she admitted she had the most fun with this one and relished every minute.

Daria's first visit to Jane's sewing studio.

Helen made a great sweater jacket from fabric she found in the Jane's freebee pile.

Kathleen M will enjoy this new tee shirt.

Alexis loves designing and will attend the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising (FIDAM) in the Fall  Jane is teaching her how to drape one of her designs on a dress form.

Jane chose this fabric for Betty at Piedmont Fabrics in Oakland. The perfect eye color for Betty.

Here is Betty's second cute tee shirt.  She made this one from leftover fabric from a friend.

Anne L. is returning to sewing and has just bought a new serger.  She is experimenting with knits.  This Loes Hinse jacket made up well with fabric from Britex.

JoAnn F. has sewn a versatile denim jacket and skirt.  The denim has a slight surface design and also some stretch. A timeless duo for JoAnn.

Sally B has just finished her denim skirt and it goes great with her previously made T shirt.

Vicki G is taking part in a 10K walk for breast cancer .Her team is the tea garden ladies...hence the flowers and T bags that are decorating her bra .  Participants all wear bras over their clothing.  She is adorable.

Maria is using a hand dyed sweatshirt as the  base for her designer jacket.  She will then applique pieces of fabric on in a pleasing formation.  Maria was inspired at the Asilomar Retreat by the work of another student that Jane had helped make an appliqued sweatshirt.

Barbara is making a beautiful jacket out of pieces of Japanese cottons. She places fabric pieces on her design board,  and when she likes what she sees,  she joins them together.  She then cuts out the pieces for the vest.

Barbara couldn't wait to get this completed once she had started!  It is absolutely gorgeous, and suits her in every way.

Some of the fabric pieces were from Kasuri Dyeworks when they were located in Berkeley.  The pattern is called My Fuji Jacket from Brensan Studios.  They have a gallery page showing this garment, and Barbara's certainly could join their gallery.  The pattern calls for 5 fabrics, or about 3+ yards.  Barbara chose to use more fabrics.

Barbara's bear.
